The Tooth Fairy-Baby Teeth Falling Out

LiquidLibrary
My five year old daughter has a loose tooth.  I told her when her tooth falls out she can put it under her pillow for the tooth fairy.  Instead of getting excited about the tooth fairy, she focused on the tooth falling out.  She usually says "Mommy, I don't want my tooth to fall out."  She's afraid she's going to swallow it.  I have reassured her that's not going to happen...lol

Apparently, baby teeth start falling out around the age of five or six, but sometimes it can happen later.  I have talked to other mothers who said their child still hasn't lost any teeth and they're around the same age as my daughter.  Permanent teeth can start growing before the baby teeth fall out, which creates two rows of teeth.  This is what is happening to my daughter as there's a new tooth behind the loose one.  There's twenty baby teeth in total and they'll start falling out one at a time until the age of 12 or 13.

Losing the first tooth is a big milestone for a child.  It's a sign the child is getting older and about to enter a new stage in their life.

So, I wonder what the tooth fairy will bring my daughter?

When Your Children are Sick

Mother beside child in bed.
Every parent dreads the words "Mommy I don't feel well."  God knows I have heard those words or similar words from my children enough times.  My five year old is very expressive, so when she's sick I know instantly.  When my three year old is sick she's very quiet and not herself.

If your child is in school or daycare they're most likely going to catch something and bring it home.  It's frustrating when one child is sick because you try really hard to keep them away from the other children that are well to prevent the spread of germs.  Sometimes it's challenging because they still want to play together.  While my children are sick sharing cups, utensils or food is out of the question.  If they cough or sneeze I encourage them to use a tissue and wash their hands.

It's important for me to stay healthy because they need me to take care of them.  I wash my hands frequently and sanitize any surfaces that might have been touched by my sick child.  I limit my kisses on their face until they're better, but I comfort them and give them lots of hugs and love.

Gotta Love Them Cheerios!

Oat cereal
Children just love Cheerios as it's the perfect snack.  They're small, easy to chew and best of all they're healthy!  I make sure there's always Cheerios in our house as I don't think our children can live without them.  My children are extremely picky eaters, especially my three year old, but I can always rely on Cheerios to save the day!

I recently learned that my three year old also likes Cheerios in a bowl with milk.  I was surprised because my children always preferred eating them dry in their snack bowl.  My husband eats them too.  When I was pregnant with my first child I would take some to work as a snack. I also like the Honey Nut Cheerios as they have a sweet taste.  What can I say, I have a sweet tooth :-)

Daycare centres frequently give Cheerios to the children.  Wherever I go I usually see mothers with their little one in a stroller holding a bowl of Cheerios.  Gotta love them Cheerios!

So, have you had your Cheerios today?

Helping Your Children Read

It's important for parents to read with their children.  In my opinion, it's a good idea for parents to start when their children are young as it prepares them for school.  Understanding how to read will help enhance their self-confidence and motivate them to want to learn more.  There are different things parents can do to make reading fun.

Flash cards-These are easy and fun to do with your children.  I did flash cards with my five year old when she was learning how to use the potty as it was a good way to pass the time.  I would mix them up to make sure she really recognized the letters.

Pointing at the words-When I read with my five year old I point to the words so she becomes familiar with them.

Laminating sheets-I wanted my five year old to practice writing her letters and her name, so I decided to print some letter sheets and laminate them.  I also purchased some dry erase markers so she could repeatedly trace the letters and her name.  I'm going to start doing this with my three year old as she starts kindergarten next September.

Educational games-My children love playing educational games on the computer.  They also enjoy playing with their LeapFrog.  My three year old is getting better at tracing her letters because of her LeapFrog.

There are so many things parents can do to help their little ones read.  Be creative and have fun with it :-)
